2024

A Year-In-Review.

January

January. The start to a new year that changed our lives! I started the year off in the warmth of the Florida sun on a shoot for Grundéns and ended the month on the frigid waters of Southwest Missouri on a duck hunting shoot for First Lite. It’s always nice when work takes me back to my old stomping grounds!

February

February 2024 was a slow month, which was welcomed. We took time to make good food, enjoy our community and Whit hit 3 months of pregnancy with our little bean!

March

March was an abnormally busy month in 2024! I had a shoot with my friends at Clive Coffee to feature their espresso machines and grinders in a wide variety of locations and use cases all around Portland, OR. Next, I did a personal project with my friend and chef, Chad White to showcase him at work in his restaurant. And lastly, I joined my good friend Rob Endsley and his family for a family boating adventure in the San Juan Islands and documented the fun along the way for Mercury Marine. It was a fun month to try out some different things and create work outside of my normal realm of outdoor work.

April

April was a fun one. Turkeys started gobbling and we chased them all over the place while I documented the process and some fun new products that came out from the good people over at Benchmade knives. I did some work for Westward Whiskey on a social media campaign they were working on. Went into the mountains a documented Chad White create a five star meal over the fire. Octopus and all. Finished out the month by doing a shoot for Solo Stove to feature some of their fun products that make hangs outside just a little more fun. And most importantly, Whit hit five months of pregnancy with the babe!

May

May was a busy one with a fun little “babymoon” down in San Diego to celebrate our last few months without a baby. Then worked with the magazine, Edible - Inland Northwest to document a local couple and the brewery they started outside of Spokane, WA. And finally, we made our way north for the annual trip to Alaska with Rob Endsley and the whole crew of good people up on Prince of Whales Island! While I was up there, I did a wide variety of work for my clients, Yeti, Grundéns, Benchmade and Mercury Marine.

June

June marks the start of real summer here in the PNW and we took full advantage of it! This month brought a lot of food-based photography which has been a lot of fun for me as it’s a personal passion of mine. We started the month with a quick overnight camping trip with some close friends just for fun. We rented an incredible home high in the mountains of the Cascades and did a photoshoot for Gozney pizza ovens to showcase a few of their ovens in an awe-inspiring environment. Next, I did a shoot for Yeti that features their new line of cast iron pans being used by Chad White cooking up an incredible meal over the open flame. I did another shoot for Gozney this month, as well that features their Roccbox oven that is much more portable and can be used anywhere! We brought it down to one of our favorite spots on the river and made some tasty pies! Lastly, I finished out the month by doing a shoot for Velotric E-Bikes around Spokane to help with the launch of one of their new commuter bikes. Gotta love summer!

July

July was a big month of packing lots of things in before the baby comes! I was fortunate enough to be able to work with Experience Olympia and Beyond to explore the tide-to-table and farm-to-table movement that is taking place in that area. We visited oyster farms, documented a mussel harvest with one of the local tribes, visited a local creamery, and a small, yet fruitful farm run by some incredible people. In contrast, we also featured some of the restaurants and markets where these ingredients are used and sold - only a few miles from where they came from. It was such a fun project! Whit and I got to experience “Trail Feast” with Chef Chad White and got to have a 10-course meal in the backcountry of Idaho. And lastly, I did another shoot for Velotric to help launch a different model of E-Bike shot around downtown Spokane. Whit hit 8 months of pregnancy and we started to buckle down and get ready for baby to arrive!

August

August was the month that brought us our daughter. Juniper James Matthews was born on August 5th and we’ve had a whole lot of fun with her since then!

I still had a bit of work that needed to get done this month, so I did a fun shoot with Oakley that features our friend, Don, and his work with Team Rubicon and their work in disaster relief situations. Check out the film by Gnarly Bay HERE!

September

September was a good mix of work, play and relaxing at home. I finished up the project with Oakley and Team Rubicon with a trip down to Dallas. We spent some time at home and on the west side visiting family, snuggling with the babe, celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary and getting way too into pickleball… We took a little vacation with some of our closest friends to Vail, CO to experience the beauty of early fall and the yellow aspens in the Rockies. Always great to get back that way… Lots of nostalgia every time I go back to Colorado. And finally, I finished out the month with a trip to Montana to do a fly fishing shoot for my friends at Grundéns!

October

October was a fun one with a good mix of work around home and a bit of travel too. I started the month with a big shoot for Case Knives down in Arkansas where we did some duck hunting, trotlining for catfish, frog gigging and just some overall enjoyment all that the south has to offer. The northern lights made quite the appearance in our back yard here in Spokane, which was such a cool experience. And my first time being able to see them with the naked eye! I did a handful of projects for Edible - Inland Northwest showcasing a dinner party, Allen Stone and his local music festival and few other projects for the magazine. I finished out this month with a trip over to Idaho to do a shoot for Gozney at a beautiful log cabin nestled into the forest. We made some tasty pizzas and had lots of laughs with some good friends. I always love October…

November

November was a good month for visiting family and taking a little bit of downtime from work. We flew back to Missouri to introduce Juni to my extended family, bring her to her first family deer camp and I was able to get a nice little buck on the family property with my brother sitting next to me. I did a project for Pendleton Whisky while in Missouri and did some work for Boss Shotshells back home in Washington later in the month.

December

December was a pretty chill month with lots of family time and the holidays spent at home. We took a trip to Austin, TX to spend some time in the sun with Whit’s family and I did another project with Pendleton Whiskey and Snake River Farms back at home. We hosted family for the holidays and had a slow start to the new year, which was so nice!

2024 was a big year of change and exciting new additions to our family. 2025 has already been off to a busy start and I’m excited to see where the rest of the year takes us! So thankful for the continued support from my friends, family and clients that allow me to do this crazy thing that I get to call work. Onward to another year of great things! See ya out there…
